Missouri Man Sets Fire to Car, Goes on Rampage at Cottondale Rest Stop
A Missouri man was charged with first-degree criminal mischief after intentionally setting fire to a vehicle on the evening of May 29 at a rest area in Cottondale.
According to court documents filed last Wednesday, witnesses spotted the Monett, Missouri man who has been identified as 34-year-old Zar Ko throwing a flaming rag into a car at a rest stop off of Ed Stephens Road.
As the car burned, Ko reportedly proceeded to break the windows of the rest area, as well as some of the semi-trucks parked close by.
According to the deposition, the car set aflame completely burned up and also damaged the asphalt at the rest stop.
Officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to the scene. Ko was not in possession of a weapon and did not require medical attention and no officers received any injuries.
According to the charging documents, a responding officer observed Ko break a side mirror and window of one of the trucks before he was detained and taken into custody.
Because the cost of the property damage exceeded $2,500, Ko was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, a Class-C felony.
Ko was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he still remained Wednesday awaiting a $7,500 bond.
