Oh No, More Severe Weather Possible Next Week in Central, West Alabama

We have had a few weeks of rough weather in Alabama that has included tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, flooding, and more. Now, in a developing weather story, there is the possibility of more severe weather next week.

It’s hard to hear about yet another possible round of severe weather but it’s always best to know in advance of the storm system's arrival so you can prepare. Don’t forget that these severe weather situations are not uncommon for our area during this timeframe.

We are out several days from the incoming storm system and monitoring closely has it will affect the southern region. Please check back for updates because as this system develops and weather conditions change, information will be updated as we get closer to the arrival of this system in Alabama.

Tuesday Thoughts

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that this “next weather system will bring rain and thunderstorms to the state Tuesday and Tuesday night. Global models continue to suggest this feature will have strong wind fields and a pretty decent amount of surface-based instability, meaning we will have some risk of strong to severe thunderstorms.”

The “SPC has parts of Alabama in a severe weather threat in their "Day 5" outlook, mainly from Birmingham south and west but this will likely be expanded to cover much of the state in future outlooks,” said Spann.

Thoughts on the Threats

Spann noted that “it looks like a situation where damaging winds and a few tornadoes will be possible, but it is still too early to be really specific on the magnitude of the threat, or the timing.”

Wednesday Thoughts

As the cold front travels through the state of Alabama this could also bring threats to the outlook for Wednesday. Spann said that the “SPC has much of the state in a severe weather threat in their (Day 6) outlook for this event. Rain amounts will be in the 2-3 inch range for most of the state Tuesday and Wednesday, and some flooding problems could develop.”
