Police say on September 22nd, Munoz was caught on school surveillance cameras grabbing a child by the arm, lifting him in the air and slinging him to her other side.

"Ms. Munoz was next recorded grabbing [the student] by the leg and slinging him approximately 6 feet across the room," according to a deposition fired after her arrest.

Munoz reportedly later told school administrators that she "just snapped" from dealing with the child.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation, and ultimately Munoz was charged with one county of child abuse, a Class C felony.

Terri Brewer, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa County School System, said Munoz was fired a few days after the incident.

"Mandy Munoz’s employment as a teacher’s assistant at Lake View Elementary was terminated on Monday, September 26," Brewer said. "The Tuscaloosa County School System has and will cooperate with any law enforcement investigation regarding this situation. Due to laws that protect the privacy of students, the Tuscaloosa County School System is unable to discuss publicly any details of the situation. The safety of our students is the highest priority of the Tuscaloosa County School System."

Munoz, a McCalla woman, was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where she has since been released on a $15,000 bond.
