The Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter will lower its adoption fees to just $10 next week as they partner up with the Bissell Pet Foundation (BPF) for its "Empty the Shelters" initiative. The reduced rate is only good October 1-3, so potential pet parents will have to act fast.

"Adoption events are a wonderful way for the shelter to help get animals out of our facility and into loving homes," TMAS Programs Manager Thomas Sahm said. "We are hoping for a great turnout!"

The reduced fees are made possible by the BPF, who sponsors the adoptions by covering the difference between what a shelter would normally charge and their reduced rate during an ETS event.

"BPF is happy to host Empty the Shelters events as our budget allows because we know it works for our shelter partners and the pets in their care," Cathy Bissel, the founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, said in a press release. "By sponsoring adoption fees during ETS, we make it a win-win for everyone involved."

BPF Communications Specialist Bri Olson said that all animals up for adoption during this promotion will be spayed or neutered and microchipped to prevent further pet homelessness.

This will be the sixth "Empty the Shelters" event this year that the BPF has hosted. Since 2016, the event has helped over 40,000 pets find forever homes.
