Driving on I-20/59 can at times be an absolute pain....especially if you're caught in a total standstill. However, I-20/59 motorists might be getting a bit of relief soon. That's because transportation officials say that new electronic message boards will be arriving in January, to help alert drivers of road construction, lane closures, accidents, and road conditions.

ALDOT spokesman John McWilliams told TV Station WVTM-13, that the Smart Work Zone system will be used to provide real-time information to drivers during incidents and closures. McWilliams also added that  the new system should better inform motorists, encourage them to take alternate routes and allow for more freely flowing traffic while making work zones safer for workers and drivers.

In addition, the information that appears on electronic message boards, will also be accessible through the ALGO Traffic app for smartphones.
