A heat wave impacting the South is pushing temperatures above average by 10 to 15 degrees. The southern region of the United States should feel impacts that could last all week long and some areas even into the weekend.

Heat Advisory Information

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a “Heat Advisory” for today, June 22 starting at Noon and ending at 6 p.m.

Heat Index Values could reach as high as 105 degrees for areas along and near I-20 and I-65. Please be reminded that heat-related illnesses are real and “heat stress could occur to persons performing strenuous outdoor activities or persons without adequate cooling resources,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist commented that we can expect “highs in the 95-100 degree range today through Friday with only isolated afternoon showers and storms. Then, for the weekend, highs will be mostly in the mid-90s with afternoon storms possible in random spots.”

Not a huge cool off but it’s better than 100-degree temperatures. A “large scale upper high moves west, high will be in the 87-92 degree range much of the week, with afternoon showers and storms more numerous as the air becomes more unstable (the air aloft will be colder),” said Spann.
