Alabama’s Col. William Loyd Webb III to Receive Leory McAbee Distinguished Service Award at Tuscaloosa Event
Tuscaloosa Tourism & Sports will recognize Col. Loyd Webb III with the Leroy McAbee Service Award during the Alabama Veterans Reunion.
The formal dinner function will take place on August 27th at the NorthRiver Yacht Club during the Alabama Veterans Reunion.
The Leroy McAbee Distinguished Service Award honors a Veteran of the U.S. military who has continued to serve his/her community through philanthropic and/or volunteerism in order to enhance both the community and the citizens within it. The award is named after Mr. Leroy McAbee, who served in the Korean War and commits his life to serving his community. This award is meant to honor a Veteran from or living in Alabama that has dedicated his/her life to giving back to the community following military service.
“Col. Webb has displayed a lifetime of service to his country both professionally and personally. His distinguished military career is filled with accolades but it is his attitude of servanthood following his retirement that we would like to honor. Through his service at Still Serving Veterans and many statewide Veteran and community projects, he exemplifies everything that this award stands for; it is truly our honor to be able to give this to Col. Webb,” Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports CEO Gina Simpson stated.
Along with the award presentation, the 2016 Alabama Veterans Reunion boasts an enjoyable itinerary including partnering with MyVA Community, a nationwide initiative that enables Veteran advocates, service providers, Veterans, and stakeholders to have a voice in identifying their community goal. On Friday a public forum for MyVA Community will be held at the Tuscaloosa River Market from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the market there will be a guest reception. On Saturday a Veterans Appreciation Festival will take place on the Tuscaloosa VA grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the formal dinner beginning at 5 p.m. at the NorthRiver Yacht Club. The dinner event is $35 a person or $60 a couple and $750 for a corporate table sponsorship (10 person table). Tickets and more information are available at www.alabamaveteransreunion.com.
