Elvis Presley’s Graceland to Be Expanded
Elvis Presley's Graceland is getting a major renovation. On Aug. 15, the day before the 39th anniversary of the singer's death, the estate announced a $45 million expansion project.
The property will soon include a new 200,000-square-foot entertainment complex called "Elvis: Past, Present & Future," which is scheduled to open in 2017. It will also hold an exhibit of Presley's cars and airplanes, as well as a retail space, museum, visitor center and hotel.
The new facility will also have two themed restaurants named after Elvis' parents; Gladys and Vernon. While Gladys’ Diner will feature classic American dishes including Elvis’ favorite, grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches, Vernon’s Smokehouse will feature authentic Memphis BBQ smoked in-house.
Additionally, a 20,000-square-foot Graceland soundstage will act as a venue for live music performances, movie screenings and premieres and other corporate events, as the theater holds seating for up to 2,000 people.
“We are thrilled to bring Elvis fans the opportunity to explore the things that Elvis loved and what he would have loved today — the music, the technology, the experiences,” says Joel Weinshanker, managing partner of Graceland Holdings, LLC, in a press release. “'Elvis: Past, Present & Future' will enable our visitors to live a day in the life of Elvis Presley. Whether you’ve been to Graceland multiple times or have yet to make the trip, we know that you will be entertained, educated and inspired like never before, here at the world’s greatest music landmark.”
Elvis: Past, Present & Future is scheduled to open in the spring of 2017.
