1) Testimony continues later this morning in the federal courtroom of Chief U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler where 42yo Patrick Stallworth is on trial for the 2019 kidnapping of Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney. Jurors yesterday viewed a recoded interview where Stallworth claimed his girlfriend Irisha Brown took the 3-yo and wanted him to do things to her. He said he refused and told her to take the girl and leave his apartment.

2) The next Alabama legislative session doesn’t begin until March but advocacy group Alabama Arise has already set their agenda for change. Among the issue they are pushing are adequate budgets for human service agencies, removing tax from groceries, voting rights, criminal justice reform public transportation, pay day and title lending reform and death penalty reform. The GOP controlled legislature has indicated willingness to debate removing the grocery tax. 

3) If a small group of people at the University of Alabama have their way the word Dixie will be removed from the “Yea Alabama” fight song. They are petitioning the school to remove "Dixie" in favor of a what they call a "more appropriate term." Calling themselves Delete Dixie Initiative, the petition is currently made up of "20 or 30" students and UA faculty. The group has also started a change.org petition with the same goal.

4) A work stoppage over inhumane conditions at the Bibb Correctional Facility in Brent and other state prisons that began September 26 is winding down according to state officials. But 5 prisons remain entirely shut down by the strike. Prisoners who spoke to the prison reform group, The Marshall Project are disputing the department’s characterization that the protest is ending.

5) No action has been taken by the Tuscaloosa County Commission on bids for sewer improvements in Holt. Inflation was blamed for driving up estimated cost well over the 680 thousand dollars initially budgeted for the project. The delay was met with dissatisfaction by some Holt residents.
