UAB Football Cancels Game Due To COVID-19

The UAB Blazers will be forced to reschedule next Friday's matchup with the UTEP Miners, because of positive COVID-19 cases on the team.

This comes on the heels of the team having to already cancel their game against North Texas this weekend. 

The team sent out an official press release this afternoon, with the announcements

"Due to the recent developments of COVID positive tests and subsequent contact tracing within the UAB football program, next Friday's game at UTEP has been canceled. The UAB Department of Athletics announced on Thursday that this weekend's game against North Texas is canceled, which has also affected next Friday's game in Midland. There remains a possibility to reschedule and the schools will work with the league office in that instance."

The Blazers have been hot and cold this year, with loses to No. 9 Miami and No. 12 Louisiana Lafayette.

Despite those tough games, the Birmingham boys still sit atop the Conference USA West standings with an overall record of 4-3. 

The team is tied with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, holding a slight edge due to the fact that UAB got the win when the two teams met a few weekends ago.  

 For a program that was out of commission for a while before returning in 2017, this news might worry fans and anyone who is closely connected with the program. But, they will bounce back from this small setback and continue to have success on and off the field. 

Their next scheduled matchup will come on Nov. 27 against the Southern Miss Eagles.
