Potential For Strong And Severe Weather Today
Today, Tuesday, March 24, 2020, we have the potential for strong and severe weather. Most of our listening areas can expect damaging winds and quarter-sized hail. Some of our listening areas are in the zone where they could expect damaging winds, quarter-sized hail, and the possibility of a tornado. There is a fine line between the Storm Prediction Center risk levels between “marginal” for North Alabama and down into the northern counties of Central Alabama and “slight” for the rest of the northern half of Central Alabama.
The National Weather Service reminds us to be prepared ahead of time because due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you should call ahead to see if your community tornado shelter will be open as the decision to open tornado shelters will be decided at the local or county level.
From the National Weather Service, “Severe storms are possible today from 4 PM until 10 PM near and north of Interstate 20. A few storms will be capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour, and quarter-sized hail. A tornado cannot be ruled out.”
I know our focus has been on the coronavirus which is very serious but please don't forget we are in our severe weather season until May. My suggestion is to be weather aware today - @MaryKRadio
