A Northport man is facing a series of misdemeanor charges after he allegedly spit on two event staff members at Bryant-Denny Stadium during the Alabama Crimson Tide's Homecoming football game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs Saturday.

According to court records obtained by the Tuscaloosa Thread, police were called to a gate leading into the Stadium on a theft call, where a University of Alabama Police officer had detained a 23-year-old Northport man.

The Tuscaloosa Thread's policy is to only identify suspects accused of felony crimes by name and the individual in this case has only been accused of misdemeanors to date, so they will not be named in this report.

According to the deposition, the man was cursing and threatening to hurt two men working Stadium security and event management there.

As police tried to separate the man from the other two, he allegedly "started to throw his hands into the air and lunge" at the two staffers.

Police say UA employees began to clear the area near the gate to ensure patron safety and officers moved to arrest the Northport man, who reportedly cleared his throat and spit in the faces of the two men with whom he had been arguing.

The suspect was finally taken into custody and charged with one count of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault with bodily fluids -- all misdemeanors.

He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his bond was set at $1,500. If the original theft call will result in criminal charges, they had not been filed as of Tuesday morning.
