You don't want things flying out of your truck bed when you're driving down the road, and neither does Dodge Ram.  They are recalling over a million pickup trucks because of of a defect that could result in your tailgates flying open while you're driving.  The recall covers a portion of Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks from the 2015 through 2017 model years.

The problem is due to the power-locking functionality of the tailgate. A small piece inside the latch mechanism can break, allowing a component to move too far and pull on the unlocking arms, thus unlatching the tailgate. The recall involves modifying the latch to limit how far the actuator components can move.  The recall doesn't affect every single 2015-2017 Ram truck. It's only applicable to models with power-locking, rather than manual, tailgates. And it also excludes trucks with an eight-foot bed.

Ram will notify customers and dealers about the recall on September 14., but in th meantime they advisecustomers to tie-down or otherwise secure any cargo.  If you have any additional questions, you can call their Customer Care Center at 1-866-220-6747.
