Now of course every city has its fair share of uncleanliness and rough living conditions, but some more than others in the United States.

Lawn Starter ranked the dirtiest states in the nation using certain categories. The 4 categories were pollution, living conditions, consumer satisfaction, and infrastructure.

According to Lawn Starter these are the top 4 direst cities in Alabama.

Last but certainly not least, is the rising city of Huntsville. The city has a green team where their top priority is to make the community aware of litter and they even have a hotline number you can find here. In March of this year they teamed up with the solid waste disposal authority to host a drop off and clean up days for hazardous waste.

Mobile, Alabama home of the Mardi Gras festivities. With that being said they probably have their fair share of trash and debris. Scoring 28.18 they have done good efforts to keep their scores low. With cleaning programs like operation clean sweep, one mobile, and keep Mobile beautiful the city has a lot of helping hands.

The states capital unfortunately comes in at #2 with a score of 29.46, almost half of Birmingham. The city does try to encourage recycling to help keep trash off the streets. In 2021 the Montgomery Clean City Commission received a $7,500 grant for informational recycling decals to be placed on all city given trash bins.

Home of the Magic City Classic, Birmingham comes in at the #1 spot for Alabama. With an overall score of 45.74 and according to AccuWeather they have an AQI of 76 which is in the poor category. The city has created efforts to get it cleaned up. In August of 2022, the mayor got approved by the city council to invest 6.5 million into a garbage collection system.
