Freezing Rain Potential for Portions of Alabama This Morning

NOW

I wanted you to know that the National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of Lamar, Marion, and Winston Counties. The information notes that “freezing rain may create a light glaze of ice on bridges and elevated surfaces this morning through 9 AM this morning in portions of northern Lamar, Marion, and Winston.”

The National Weather Service Birmingham also recommends that you “drive carefully across portions of Winston, Marion, Lamar, Fayette and Walker Counties this morning. Light precipitation is falling with temperatures near freezing. Some slick spots may develop, especially on bridges and overpasses.”

SATURDAY

Also, please know that this freezing rain potential could also “occur overnight tonight into Saturday morning for portions of Lamar, Marion, and Winston Counties. Accumulations generally less than 0.05 inches are possible.”

We will continue to monitor this situation. Another weather information will also be posted soon about the overall thoughts about the potential for a winter weather scenario for our coverage areas.
