Alabama Woman Arrested For Prostituting 18-Year-Old

A woman has been arrested in Birmingham after police say she prostituted an 18-year-old, according to AL.com.

After attaining information on a possible human trafficking operation at an undisclosed hotel, Homewood police arrested Diashe Grant. The charge is promoting prostitution in the first degree.

I can't imagine why someone would do something like this. How could any human being bring themselves to participate in trafficking people? It's really beyond me! Especially as a parent, to now think of another person's child unwillingly being in these situations is heart-breaking. It's pretty much modern-day slavery.

Guardian Group says that human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world. Watching movies, you'd think that human trafficking is an overseas problem that isn't present in the United States. This couldn't be further from the truth. Sex trafficking has been reported in each of the 50 states in the U.S and according to Guardian Group, more than 80% of victims are U.S citizens.

This is definitely something I think should not only get more attention regionally but more attention nationally for the sake of the children and families involved. Could you imagine your child going missing for years, only to find out they've been victims of sex trafficking, not overseas but right here in the U.S?

Alabama has had a total of 509 human trafficking cases since 2007, and 82 cases reported this year according to HumanTraffickingHotline.org.
