The National Weather Service in Birmingham now has much of West Alabama in an enhanced risk area for severe storms this afternoon and tonight.

Portions of Pickens, Lamar, Fayette, and Winston Counties are now in the enhanced risk area. These counties have a higher likelihood of seeing severe storms that could produce tornadoes, damaging winds of up to 70 miles an hour, and golf ball size hail.

The remainder of our listening area is under a "slight" risk for storms that could produce tornadoes, damaging winds of up to 60 miles an hour, and quarter size hail.

We will continue to monitor the forecast and bring you updates as the storm system develops.
