Veterans Memorial Park Has Rescheduled Memorial Day Program

Honestly, I can’t even believe we are in the middle of May, let alone that Memorial Day is just around the corner.  Memorial Day is a time to honor the men and women who died serving in the United States military, and the holiday is observed on the last Monday of May.  I really respect this day because I have family and friends that have served and are currently serving in the military.  They indeed are the definition of commitment, thinking of others, and protecting our nation.

In a press release issued by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority, they announced that the Veterans Memorial Park Association, for the first time in many years, will NOT host a Memorial Day program at Veterans Memorial Park.  However, the press release noted that “In light of the current COVID-19 outbreak with gatherings and social distancing guidelines and in consideration for health and safety of our veterans, our military families, and loved ones, PARA and association members believe it is the right thing to do. There are plans to hold a joint Memorial Day and Veterans Day Program on November 11, 2020.”  So be sure to save that date so you can do your part to honor our military members.

I love visiting Veterans Memorial Park, and whenever I have out of town visitors, this is one of our first stops because of the meaning and purpose of the park.  Col Duane Lamb, president of the Veterans Memorial Park Association, “We encourage the community to feel free to visit our beautiful park during the day and remember our veterans’ courage and sacrifice. It is our Memorial Day responsibility to never forget.”
