The holidays are a time for fun and celebration, but the true spirit of the season isn't in the parties you attend or the presents you receive... the true holiday spirit is about sharing joy and helping others, especially those in a time of need.

It's in this spirit of giving that we were able to grant Christmas wishes for special Alabama families with Heartwarming Holidays. Thanks to our sponsors, we've been able to make the holidays merry and bright for a few families who've been going through some dark times.

We were able to surprise Beth Ethridge of Adger with $1,000 today thanks to her co-worker Jessica. They work together at Cumberland Dental inside University Mall, and Jessica nominated Beth to receive a Heartwarming Holiday wish, sharing the story of the Ethridge family's recent hardships:

I have worked with Beth for over 7 years now, and her husband has been battling Stage 3 colon cancer since February, and after 6 months of chemo treatment, his cancer has spread further. While he's been sick, she's been the sole breadwinner for the family, and they have barely been making ends meet. Every xray is $300 copay, the yearly deductible is $2000, plus the portion of treatment that insurance didn't cover. I want the family to have a nice Christmas with all the presents they can't afford.

I contacted Jessica last week to plan Beth's surprise, and Jessica was able to bring Beth to Newk's Eatery in Tuscaloosa today. Check out the video above to see the moment we surprised Beth with $1,000 to make sure her family has a Merry Christmas!

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors--without them we wouldn't have been able to grant Beth's wish or that of Alta George of Coker. Take a moment to thank these kind local businesses today for helping us to spread Christmas cheer in West Alabama:
