Tuscaloosa County School System Delivers Meals To Kids
In what can be said is a stroke of genius. the Tuscaloosa County School System has started delivering meals to students 18yrs and younger no matter if they're a county school student or not during the summer.
The wonderful thing about this is that parents do not have to worry about getting the children to the various places to receive the meals, they are delivered to predetermined locations. The "Nutrition Ignition" bus makes three stops for breakfast and lunch. They are
- Green Village near Flatwoods Elementary School (Breakfast- 7- 7:20 a.m.--Lunch: 11- 11:20 a.m.)
- The Brown House community in Northport (Breakfast- 7:35- 7:55 a.m.-- Lunch: 11:35- 11:55 a.m.)
- Crescent East Apartments in Tuscaloosa (Tuesday through Thursday: Breakfast- 8:30- 9:15 a.m.--Lunch- 12:30- 1:15 p.m.)
According to Donette Worthy with the Tuscaloosa County School System
We have 15 to 20 open feeding sites throughout the county at our schools, but some students can't get to us. So the USDA now allows us to make a mobile feeding bus and take it out into the community so the kids can get the food.
Worthy also said that the "Nutrition Ignition" bus may soon start delivering dinners as well.
