The Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party (TCDP) is hosting a food drive for the West Alabama Food Bank.

“We want to help people here in our community in these extraordinary times,” the TCDP posted on its Facebook page Friday.

Donation drop-off is available at the party’s headquarters, located at 3311 Loop Road in Tuscaloosa, every Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. on Fridays until Feb. 26. Both physical and financial donations will be accepted.

Some of the food items requested are:

  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal
  • Grits
  • Breakfast bars
  • Pasta boxes
  • Mac n cheese
  • Canned meals (soups, Spaghetti O’s, ravioli)
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned meats

Writing checks for a financial donation can be made out to the West Alabama Food Bank. According to the West Alabama Food Bank’s website, “Every dollar donated equates to $7 worth of food for neighbors in need!”

The nonprofit charity organization located in Northport, Alabama, operates in nine Alabama counties and works to end food insecurity, which “ranges from rates of 15 to 31 percent, numbers that represent more than twice represent the 12.7 U.S. average.”

The food bank is also looking for volunteers to help with fund development and food sorting. For those interested in helping the Tuscaloosa County Democrats or the West Alabama Food Bank directly, visit their websites linked here.
