Trunk or Treat Should Be ILLEGAL
When I was a youngen’ (many many moons ago) in Pell City, AL, WE USED TO TRICK OR TREAT ON HALLOWEEN.
My mother would dress us up at around 6 p.m. with a grocery bag and send us out “BEGGING” as she called it.
As we ran out the door in our BARGAIN TOWN USA HALLOWEEN COSTUMES– she would add: “Don’t get RUNOVER! THE LAST THING I NEED TONIGHT IS A BUNCH OF DEAD GOBLINS!”
My mom had a way with words.
That was THE MOST FUN I CAN REMEMBER AS A KID! Other than that time we found a PLAYBOY MAGAZINE in my buddy Ryan’s older brother’s room.
NOW, PARENTS WANT TO DENY THE MOST JOYOUS OF NIGHTS WITH...
TRUNK OR TREAT.
There is nothing wrong with TRUNK OR TREAT – Except it is LAZY PARENTING.
AND I DON’T LIKE IT.
Parents don’t want to walk around the block with their kids so they take them to a parking lot and grab handfuls of candy out of people's trunks, usually set up at church parking lots.
WHAT A BUMMER–
I hear parents say “It’s a safe alternative to trick or treating!”
WELL I SAY:
"You are AFRAID TO TAKE YOUR KIDS AROUND YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD FOR AN HOUR AND LET THEM FEEL THE JOY OF RUNNING UP TO A HOUSE AND GETTIN’ THEY CANDY ON???"
TRUNK OR TREAT EVENTS ARE FINE–
In addition to TRICK OR TREATING!
Nobody has ever put a razor blade in a kid's candy bag– AND IF THEY DID– YOU COULD FIGURE OUT WHO PUT IT THERE BECAUSE YOU WOULD ONLY BE GOING IN YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD.
Excuses-Excuses.
Shame!
To deny a kid TRICK OR TREATING IS JUST LAZY PARENTING.
Halloween should be about kids running around and getting a SUGAR RUSH!
The EXHILARATION OF LOOKING IN YOUR BAG AND SEEING A FULL-SIZE SNICKERS BAR!!
Not walking around a parking lot having TOOTSIE ROLLS HANDED TO THEM.
