Tips on How to Build Your Own Alabama Themed Charcuterie Board
Let’s talk about the world of charcuterie. It’s awesome and very French. But, first, let’s be sure we pronounce charcuterie correctly. Try this … char·cu·te·rie …. SHärˈko͞odərē. Be sure to click here for a pronunciation video.

Some would say that a charcuterie board is an art form. It’s simply not just a cheese board. Traditional charcuterie boards include various cured meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, jams, stuffed olives, pickles, crackers, and more.
They always say everything old is new again. My mother used to craft these boards in the 70s. As a little girl, I was always sneaking a snack when she wasn’t looking. It was so grown up. Now, you can craft your own Alabama-themed charcuterie board.
First Step
The first step is to get yourself a nice board. Natural wood boards look really awesome. I’ve seen Crimson Tide themed boards as well. However, if you want to impress your guests, an Alabama state-shaped board is a total win. Here is one from Amazon for $20. Score!
Second Step
The second step is to get your meats organized. For an Alabama-themed charcuterie board, Conecuh sausage would be a complete win. It goes against some of the rules. But, this is your Alabama board. Other great suggestions, hard sausage, thinly sliced cured pork tenderloin, prosciutto, and other cured type of meats.
Fourth Step
The Fourth step is my favorite step. Add your olives, tangy pickles, stuffed black olives, pickled carrot sticks, artichoke hearts, and more.
Fifth Step
Step five is all about the fresh fruits which you can find at the farmer’s market at the Tuscaloosa River Market. Grapes, berries, exotic fruits, and even dried fruits hit the spot. Alabama FIGS are a must. I bet one of your neighbors has a fig tree. I’ve even seen some local grocery stores carry Alabama figs.
Sixth Step
In step six, you should add in your nuts. The only way to go for an Alabama-themed charcuterie board is with nuts from Priester’s. You can also add jams and jellies to your board for step seven from Priester’s. The pecan pepper jelly is a must.
Last Step
In the final step, arrange everything on your board and have fun with it. Add some herb springs for flare.
