Tuscaloosa Police Say Monday Morning Shooting on I-20/59 Was Over Woman, Suspect Arrested
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has arrested a suspect for a drive-by shooting on Interstate 20/59 Monday morning that investigators say arose out of a fight over a woman.
Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said in a Monday afternoon release the incident occurred between mile markers 72 and 73 southbound where a vehicle was hit by multiple gunshots.
Kennedy said the victim, who is expected to survive his injuries, reportedly knew his assailant.
During the course of the investigation, the VCU located several witnesses and videos that corroborated the victim's course of events.
Investigators located the suspect, 22-year-old Jeffery Nicholas Woods, along with his vehicle and a firearm later Monday morning.
Kennedy stated the incident appeared to be over a disagreement between the men over a woman.
Woods was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Woods is currently in the process of being booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail where he will remain on a combined $60,000 bond. His mugshot was not available at the time of the publication of this story.
