Tonight's high school football matchup between the Sipsey Valley Bears (0-5, 0-3) and the Brookwood Panthers (0-5, 0-3) has been cancelled by Sipsey Valley due to COVID-19 concerns.

Panther's head coach Mike Bramblett said he was informed of Sipsey Valley's decision to cancel the game at 1:45 p.m., five hours prior to the games scheduled kickoff. He said that should the two schools both miss they playoffs they will try to reschedule the matchup for the first week of the playoffs. The AHSAA must approve the rescheduling.

The Panthers are too familiar with having games affected by COVID-19 as they had to isolate 12 players and its head coach just prior to starting region play. Both schools have struggled through the early part of the season and tonight's matchup would have yielded the first win of the year for one of the programs. Brookwood will instead win by forfeit 1-0.

Both schools have struggled defensively, Brookwood has given up 222 points this season, an average of 44.4 points per game, Sipsey Valley has given up 209 points this year, an average of 41.8. Both schools lost to the Northridge Jaguars, Sipsey Valley falling 45-6 and Brookwood losing 45-16.

Sipsey Valley is currently scheduled to go back into 5A-R3 play next week and play the Marbury Bulldogs (3-2, 1-2) on the road.

Brookwood also has a region game next week in 6A-R4, the Panthers will host the McAdory Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-0) .
