Ronnie Milsap Hospitalized, Postpones Georgia Concert
Ronnie Milsap was forced to postpone a concert in Georgia at the last minute after a health scare resulted in him being rushed to the hospital.
According to multiple reports, the country legend suffered an unnamed health problem backstage before his scheduled concert Friday night (July 15) in Tifton, Ga., and was transported from the venue by ambulance to Tift Regional Medical Center. The scheduled performance did not take place, and no further information is available regarding Milsap's condition.
WALB in Georgia reports that Milsap was in good spirits during a meet and greet just prior to the show, talking with fans and looking forward to his concert return to the South Georgia area. His wife Joyce is originally from Douglas, Ga.
"Her family's all from there," Milsap said backstage. "And we have a lot of friends from down there, great to be back!."
The country icon has scored a long string of classic hits, including "Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends," "Daydreams About Night Things," "It Was Almost Like a Song" and "What a Difference You've Made in My Life." He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
The 73-year-old singer told WALB he has no plans to retire anytime soon.
"I don't want to retire to anything," said Milsap. "I want to keep playing my music all over the country, all over the world."
Milsap will perform a makeup concert Sunday night if his health permits. Fans can visit ticketalternative.com for refunds on Friday night's show.
Update: A Facebook post from Saddle up for St. Jude in Alabama, where Milsap is slated to perform Saturday night (July 16), says he has been discharged from the hospital after being treated for dehydration and is on his way to his scheduled show.
