Radney Foster has announced the release of an innovative dual project: a book-and-album duo, featuring fictional stories penned by the singer and accompanying music.

The Sycamore Creek project will be sold as a set, with each track on the album pairing with a short story in the book. The project, set for release in September, will give listeners a deeper look into the songs themselves, and their characters' stories, though both pieces of the project are meant to be able to stand on their own as well.

"If you ever wanted to know more about the characters -- what they were feeling, where they came from -- here is your chance," Foster explains in a press release.

Foster is well known as an artist and songwriter: He's penned hits for Keith Urban, Tanya Tucker, Jack Ingram, Sara Evans and more, but he recently had the revelation that songwriting at its most basic is simply storytelling, so he decided to delve into writing fiction for Sycamore Creek.

"I realized that, at heart, I'm a storyteller," Foster says. "This book gives me the chance to go further than what I can say in a three-minute song."

The Sycamore Creek project was fully funded via Kickstarter in only four days, but fans can still sign up as backers until Feb. 28. More information can be found on the Kickstarter website, which includes a video of Foster reading part of one of his stories, and at RadneyFoster.com.

In addition to working on his new project, Foster recently appeared in a new play, Troubadour, staged in Atlanta, Ga.
