The University of Alabama football team took part in its second and final scrimmage of the fall on Saturday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The scrimmage featured roughly 125 plays and lasted just over two hours under sunny skies, with temperatures hanging in the mid-90s for most of the afternoon prior to the arrival of a brief, heavy rainstorm late in the session that resulted in a 22-minute lightning delay.
“I was really kind of encouraged with the progress that we made today,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said following the scrimmage. “I think there was a lot of improvement between scrimmage one and scrimmage two. A lot more guys were able to execute. The key to the drill is, can you ask yourself the question, can I do my job on a consistent basis? Can I play with the kind of effort, kind of toughness and be responsible to know what to do, how to do it, why it’s important to do it that way and do it over and over and over and over, regardless of the situation in the game. I think we had more guys who can do that today.”
The scrimmage was Alabama’s second of the fall in preparation for the season opener against No. 3 Florida State in Atlanta, Ga., for the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game. The game between the Crimson Tide and Seminoles is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on ABC. The Tide will be off on Sunday before returning to practice Monday afternoon.
