Former Alabama point guard Kira Lewis was drafted No. 13 by the New Orleans Pelicans. Lewis becomes the highest drafted Alabama basketball player since Collin Sexton was selected eighth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 draft.

Lewis has been the Crimson Tide's starting point guard for the last two seasons. He averaged 15.9 points per game and four assists per game over the course of his two years.

He was a 4-star recruit out of Hazel Green High School in Meridianvill, Alabama. Lewis reclassified into the 2018 recruiting class and was still classified as the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama by 247 Sports. He would spend the 2018-19 season starting for the Crimson Tide as the youngest player in college basketball.

Lewis was recruited by  Antoine Pettway and Avery Johnson and spent one season playing for Johnson, he spent his second year with the Tide playing for Nate Oats, leading both coach's offenses with elite speed and ability to attack the rim.

He earned SEC All Freshman team in 2019 and was named First Team All-SEC for 2020. Lewis won the Gold medal for Team USA Under-19 team in the FIBA U19 World Cup.

Last season the Pelicans 30-42 and missed the playoffs after time in the bubble. The Pelicans drafted Zion Williamson with the first pick last season. The Pelicans feature Lonzo Ball at point guard currently, Lewis will likely see minutes with the Pelicans off the bench this coming season.
