The Jefferson County School System shared its first draft of a plan for the new school year in the midst of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

JEFCOED's "Roadmap for Parents," released today, reveals three options for students in the upcoming academic year: traditional in-classroom learning, remote learning, and virtual learning. Remote learning options would feature JEFCOED staff while virtual learning options feature instruction from Edmentum, an outside vendor.

Parents will have the choice of these options for their children in the 2020-2021 academic year. A fourth blended option is also listed; however, this would only be implemented in the event the Alabama Department of Public Health issues an order requiring classrooms to operate at 50% of their normal capacity.

JEFCOED also announced plans to establish wellness protocols for students and staff including wearing face masks, frequent cleaning schedules, and additional cleaning of buses. The school system says today's announcement is the first of many in the days and weeks to come.
