Shelton State and UA Announce Student Transfer Deal

The local community college signed a transfer agreement with the University of Alabama on Monday, September 11.

This agreement will "create a seamless pathway to earning a bachelor's degree from the Capstone," a statement on Shelton's website read.

This agreement includes the promise to provide students with "academic advising, career coaching, and counseling" as they make the transition between schools.

To be eligible for the transfer program, Shelton State students must have:

• a minimum 2.0 GPA
• 24 transferable credit hours

The press release said that eligible students would be identified by designated admissions counselors from both schools.

Dr. Chris Cox, the President of Shelton State, spoke on the agreement. "This partnership will help to reduce barriers and hurdles for our students..." he said. "Providing our students with direct access to UA advisors and counselors means additional support as they prepare for the next phase of their academic careers."

UA President Stuart Bell also spoke highly of the agreement. "Our goal is to make the transfer process seamless," he said, "so students can focus on earning their bachelor's degree from the Capstone and commanding legendary futures."
