Police in Tuscaloosa County are investigating after a child who was struck by a vehicle in Cottondale Wednesday night succumbed to her injuries and died.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said his multi-agency team of investigators is looking into the incident, which took place Wednesday night on Spring Drive in Cottondale.

The VCU investigates basically all deaths that occur outside of a hospital setting in Tuscaloosa County, and their involvement does not necessarily suspicion of criminal activity.

They are usually not involved in investigating traffic fatalities, even those involving pedestrians, but Kennedy said the victim was struck inside a mobile home park on price property in Cottondale, not a public road, so the VCU will take the case instead of ALEA State Troopers.
