Families looking for a fun way to celebrate Halloween in Tuscaloosa will have an opportunity to get into the spooky spirit a few days early this year.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department has announced that its annual Halloween Carnival will take place Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the University Mall parking lot.

Unlike previous years, the popular community celebration will not be held on Halloween night, October 31.

Instead, organizers are encouraging families to mark their calendars for the earlier date and bring their children dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes.

The event is free and will feature trick-or-treating, carnival-style games, children's activities, food trucks and plenty of candy for young attendees.

Costumes are encouraged, giving children an opportunity to show off their Halloween outfits while enjoying an evening of entertainment with family and friends.

The annual carnival also provides an opportunity for local families to interact with members of the Tuscaloosa Police Department outside of traditional law enforcement settings.

The department's announcement emphasizes that the celebration is designed with children and families in mind, offering multiple activities throughout the two-hour event.

Although the carnival will take place several days before Halloween, families can still expect traditional holiday activities, including collecting candy and participating in games.

Organizers have not announced a detailed schedule of activities or specific food truck vendors.

Residents planning to attend should remember that the event will take place at University Mall rather than on Halloween night.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is inviting families throughout the community to attend the free celebration on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
