"This winter event could cause significant damage to public and private property and poses a danger to health and safety of the people of Alabama, including the disruption of essential utility systems, personal injury and loss of life," the proclamation stated.

As reported by the Tuscaloosa Thread Sunday, the pre-treatment of roads in an effort to reduce the impact of winter storms will began in the region ahead of the storm.

John McWilliams, a spokesperson for ALDOT in West Alabama, said the NWS has issued a winter storm warning for Colbert, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion and Winston counties and a winter weather advisory has been issued for Blount, Cherokee, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Fayette, Lamar, Marshall and Morgan counties.

A wintry mix of precipitation is expected, with snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The counties impacted and timelines can be found here.
