Most people's first concern when it comes to unprotected sex is having a child, right? Well, what should come to mind is STDs, especially if you don't have just one sexual partner.

Chlamydia is one of the most common STDs in Alabama.

According to the CDC, in 2021 chlamydia had a total of 31,507 cases, which is an increase from previous years. You would think this would make people want to get tested more often but, cases just keep rising.

Alabama is facing a new rising STD that has generated more than 3,000 cases already this year. This STD has caused the Alabama Department of Public Health to partner with BINX Health to help decrease the rise of this disease. This partnership allows Alabama residents to order an at-home kit to test themselves for STDs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, and syphilis.

So you may be wondering what STD is now causing an increase in 46 counties statewide. Syphilis is now a big concern for many Alabama residents across the state, but there is one particular city that is outdoing them all, Montgomery. Montgomery contributes to 400 out of the 3,000 plus cases in the state, this is a 40 percent rise from last year.

Unfortunately, not everyone has access to healthcare to get tested so the state department has come up with a possible solution. They will be setting up an STD clinic that should be ready within a month and will be located at Montgomery County Health Department.
