Free Crisis Intervention Training Offered At Tuscaloosa Law Enforcement Academy

The Tuscaloosa Law Enforcement Academy will host a  40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training Program, offered at no cost to participants beginning October 26th.

CIT training prepares law enforcement officers to safely and effectively respond to individuals experiencing crises involving mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The program emphasizes practical skills officers can use in the field while strengthening partnerships between law enforcement, behavioral health providers, and community service organizations.

COURSE TOPICS INCLUDE:

Mental illness and substance use disorder recognition
Mental health treatment and the law
Effective communication techniques
Crisis response
De-escalation strategies and techniques
