Hundreds of comments are appearing on multiple Facebook posts today.
Typically, a strong smell in the air can be traced to an industrial facility in the area, but opinions differ on this strange scent.

The Smell is strong at My house
where 43 & Union Chapel Road connect. It’s smells exactly like a paper mill. Which is a very distinct smell. The only reason I know that was from playing golf ️♂️⛳️ @ Coosa Pines Golf Course in Sylacuaga, al & the paper mill is directly across the street from the golf course
Near the Fayette County line on 171, there’s the STRONG smell of skunk
