However, those anticipating his decision have waited over 37 hours since the Rebels left Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi. Well, wait once more as Kiffin has yet to make his decision. ESPN’s Marty Smith reports that Kiffin will host a team meeting Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT to announce his future.

The decision is between staying at Ole Miss to coach in the college football playoff as a head coach for the first time and continue making history as the Rebels head coach, or taking the job as LSU’s next head coach and beginning the work of reestablishing their program.

Many rumors have circulated around Kiffin’s future, but one thing remains: the decision is still unknown.

Should Kiffin be leaving Ole Miss, his tenure as the Rebels’ head coach will be remembered for years. Kiffin was named the head coach at Ole Miss on December 7, 2019, and coached his first full season in 2020, finishing with a 5-5 record. After his first season, he began to settle in. In 2021, he led the Rebels to a winning season, finishing 10-3. Including the 2021 season, Kiffin has led the Rebels to consecutive winning seasons: 8-5 in 2022, 11-2 in 2023, 10-3 in 2024, and 11-1 in 2025, their first-ever-11-win season. Kiffin’s current overall record with the Rebels is an impressive 55-19.

Additionally, he has guided the team to five consecutive bowl berths, including two New Year's Six appearances, and holds the highest win percentage of any Ole Miss coach with at least 30 games coached. Kiffin is the fastest coach in program history to reach 40 wins. Under Kiffin, Ole Miss produced two first-round draft picks: Walter Nolen, the No. 16 overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals, and Jaxson Dart, the No. 25 overall pick to the New York Giants. Both players were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Whatever Kiffin decides, it will result in a major shift in the 2025 college football season. He will either coach the Rebels in their first playoff appearance or move on to building LSU up for the 2026 season.

Despite Kiffin’s decision remaining uncertain, ESPN has reported that LSU is eager to hire him. For now, get some rest and set your alarms for 8:45 a.m.–it wouldn’t hurt to wake up 15 minutes early to prepare yourself for the announcement.
