Former Auburn and NFL quarterback Cam Newton spoke to some high school football players recently and gave the group some interesting advice when it comes to picking their college destinations.

Newton encouraged the group to think about themselves when picking a school and consider the places they'd get the best opportunities. The former NFL MVP told the kids that Kirby Smart and Nick Saban sold a lie to the kids that they needed them.

He didn't stop at naming the two most prominent coaches in the SEC, but also named the University of Tennessee and even his own alma mater Auburn University in his rant.

Newton had an interesting college journey as he spent time at the University of Florida, Blinn Community College and Auburn University. He was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2011 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers and went on to have a decade-long professional career.

The star quarterback spoke in his typical enthusiastic nature, encouraging the prospects to consider opportunities at smaller schools where they would see the field sooner.
