It's Halloween, y'all. I know it's not technically Halloween until October 31st, but when you love H-Day as much as I do, the entire MONTH of October is Halloween--and the best way to celebrate is by watching a good scary movie.  Full disclosure here: I'm not a fan of slasher films or anything that's bursting at the seams with blood and guts. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, here's my top ten favorite scary movies.

10. Hocus Pocus
It's not Halloween until you've watched this classic at least three times.

9. The Sixth Sense
Remember the hype around this flick when it was originally released? And how scared you were when little bitty Haley Joel Osment whispered, "I see dead people?"

8. Get Out
This is the best spin on a horror flick I've seen in ages. It's on HBOGo now, so watch it ASAP.

7. The Orphanage
This foreign flick from director Guillermo Del Toro is fantastic. You'll have to read subtitles, but it's worth it. This movie is fantastic.

6. The Shining
Stanley Kubrick's take on the Steven King classic is legit terrifying.

5. The Babadook
Knock. Knock. KNOCK. I still have nightmares from this movie.

4. Insidious
This flick is the reason why I cringe whenever I hear "Tiptoe Through the Tulips." Also: I believe in demons now. Thanks, James Wan.

3. The Others
I love this movie for so many reasons: 1. It's a period piece with great costumes. 2. Nicole Kidman is great. 3. It's scary as all get out.

2. It Follows
I. LOVE. THIS. MOVIE. It's so original, and I think it's one of the best horror flicks I have seen in a long time. If you dig classics from Brian De Palma and John Carpenter, you'll love this one. Watch it ASAP.

1. The Conjuring
Real talk: the first time I watched this movie, I was cowering under a blanket. By the time the movie ended, I was straight-up doing a Google search for "how to convert to Catholicism." It's scary as hell, but it's soooo good.
