West Alabama Wholesale, a local automotive dealer on Skyland Boulevard, is hosting a community-wide flea market to raise funds for two local elementary schools.

"What we're doing is making sure they have necessary supplies. They were hit especially hard last year because of COVID," said Tre Lanier, Sales and Marketing Director at West Alabama Wholesale. "On top of that, we are hoping to integrate more into the community and show we're more than just a car lot."

The flea market starts this Friday 12-5 p.m. at West Alabama Wholesale, located at 3010 Skyland Boulevard, and will feature five local businesses.

Lanier said this is a fantastic way for up and coming entrepreneurs to get their name out there. In addition to raising funds, patrons will have the chance to win a 43-inch television. Several food trucks will be at the event including Cajun Curls and Aw Shucks.

Lanier is asking all patrons of the flea market to bring reams of notebook paper, pencils, crayons and other school supplies for donations to Matthews and Central Elementary Schools.

Although the market is just open Friday, the fundraiser will last until throughout the summer. Lanier plans to deliver donated supplied to Matthews and Central Elementary Schools the week before classes start.

Ideally, Lanier hopes to make this fundraiser an annual tradition. If it proves successful, he wants other local businesses to join in and sponsor their own schools.

"We intend to further this" Lanier said. "I hope people come out to support it. We're going to keep sponsoring these schools throughout the entire year. We aren't just going to ship them pencils and paper once and be done with it."
