Hear Dolly Parton’s ‘Pure & Simple’ Title Track
Dolly Parton is giving fans a sneak peek at her upcoming album, Pure & Simple: The country icon has shared a lyric video for the project's title track.
"Pure & Simple" lives up to its name. The song is musically simple and includes some pure-country instrumentation from a mandolin and pedal steel. At its heart, "Pure & Simple" is a beautiful love song, with Parton singing about a love that is different from any she's experienced in the past.
"Other love's so complicated / Broken hearts and twisting minds," the country star muses. "Then you came, and I'm elated / So unlike the other times."
The title track of Pure & Simple is the first tune off of the upcoming album, which is set for release on Aug. 19, that Parton has shared. The self-produced project features new songs from the singer, as well as a handful of re-imagined old tracks, including "Tomorrow Is Forever," which Parton originally recorded as a duet with Porter Wagoner.
"That's a song I always loved, and I just did it as a solo," Parton tells Rolling Stone Country. "And I did a song that was actually in the Coat of Many Colors movie: "Say Forever You'll Be Mine." It was also from the Porter / Dolly days. Those two, I took and revamped and revised and re-did them in a simpler way. The rest of them are new things that I've just written."
Parton is currently supporting Pure & Simple on the road, on her Pure & Simple Tour. Dates are scheduled through the summer; a list of upcoming shows can be found at DollyParton.com.
