Agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force arrested a couple after finding over two pounds of marijuana and almost $18,000 cash at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex last week.

According to a deposition obtained by the Tuscaloosa Thread Monday, the incident occurred at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Mimosa Park Road on September 14.

Agents with the task force were executing a search warrant for 22-year-old Jacolby Isaiah Smith, who reportedly had an outstanding warrant on distribution charges.

The deposition stated agents found "a clear, large bag containing marijuana, as well as rolling trays with loose marijuana on them" in one of the bedrooms.

A deeper search of the residence allegedly turned up more marijuana hidden in a suitcase, a dresser drawer, on a nightstand and "rolled marijuana blunts." All the marijuana seized weighted approximately 2.23 pounds, agents said.

Agents also discovered a gun, a shoebox filled with money and additional cash on a dresser. WANTF ultimately seized $17,754 from the apartment.

Agents located a "vacuum sealer with marijuana residue" in a second bedroom and a "grinder with marijuana residue and bong with marijuana in it" in the living room. The marijuana did not have a tax stamp affixed to it, which is required by Alabama law.

Smith and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Ireunna Harris of Trussville, were both arrested and charged with felony trafficking, tax stamp violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smith and Harris were both booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail, and each of their bonds were set at $521,000. Jail records did not list either suspect as an inmate as of Monday afternoon, indicating they may have been released.
