Alabama edge linebacker Christopher Allen has gone undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and will sign as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos .

Allen was expected to have an opportunity to build his draft stock into at least an early day two selection, unfortunately, Allen sustained a foot injury while recording his first and only sack of the 2021 season against Miami in the season opener.

A four-star prospect from Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the 2017 recruiting class, Allen showed a tremendous amount of promise in his junior season, tallying 6.5 sacks, fourth-most in the SEC in 2020. Headed into the 2021 season, his pairing with Will Anderson sparked anticipation that the Crimson Tide pass rush would be one of the most feared units in all of college football.

Allen will now head to Denver and join in the edge-rushing unit for the Broncos where he'll play alongside fellow Crimson Tide alumni Patrick Surtain.

Allen is still recovering from his injury but should be ready to play in the 2022 season. It's equally possible, however, that Allen begins his career either on the Physically Unable to Perform list or the Non-Football Injury list since his injury happened before he entered the NFL. Either of these lists would protect the Broncos in the event Allen doesn't fully recover to the point where he can join the 53-man roster.

It's likely he'll have to earn his playing time on special teams before becoming a true pass-rush threat for the Broncos.
