The organization was founded by the Elizabeth Baptist Church, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Church members who are involved with healthcare started the Bright Future Health Interest Group in 2019. The main objective is to expose students to careers in healthcare because “5% of physicians currently practicing medicine in the US are African American.” There are also similar racial disparities in other careers in healthcare as well. The Bright Futures Health Interest Group desires to change that outlook.
These highlighted professionals explain their “background, information about their career and what they do in their job, and what it takes for students to get to where they are.” Students can engage with participants, ask questions, and even win gift card prizes for their participation. Each session usually lasts an hour. For more information, send an email to emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
