Avery Johnson Confirms Guard Ar’mond Davis Will Return to Alabama
Alabama head coach Avery Johnson confirmed Thursday that guard Ar'mond Davis has decided against transferring and will remain with the Crimson Tide next season.
The junior announced his intent to the leave the program in early April, but it appeared that he might change his mind a couple weeks later. Johnson officially put any uncertainty to rest when he confirmed to Tide 102.9 that Davis would be with the team for the 2017-18 season.
"Ar'mond at one time talked about transferring, but he had a change of heart," Johnson told host Ryan Fowler during an interview on The Game. "Ar'mond's going to be back with the Tide next year so look for him to be enrolled, unless something happens out of the blue, but look for him to be enrolled in summer school."
Davis appeared in all 32 games for Alabama last season and finished fifth on the team in scoring (6.9 ppg). His best game of the year came against Georgia, where he tied his career high of 17 points and set a new career high with five rebounds. His return will give Alabama another scoring threat off the bench.
Johnson didn't have an update on freshman Braxton Key. The team is still waiting on Key's decision to stay in the NBA Draft or return to school.
