The state’s back to school tax free weekend will be held in July for the first time this year.

Normally weekend is held in August, but lawmakers moved it to midnight Friday, July 21 until midnight Sunday, July 23 after they learned that some schools will be back in session before the first weekend in August.

More than 300 cities and counties in Alabama waive local taxes on certain back-to-school items for a weekend. Tuscaloosa, Northport and Tuscaloosa County are all participating.  During the weekend, certain school supplies, computers, and clothing can be purchased free of state sales or use tax.

A complete list and more information is available from the state Department of Revenue.
