The state of Alabama enjoys a rich boxing past and present, but up until now, there hasn't been anywhere to honor the people that contributed to that success.

On Friday night at the Tuscaloosa River Market, the inaugural class of the Alabama Boxing Hall of Fame will be inducted during a ceremony that will be part of Skyy Boxing's 'Rumble on the River.' The evening will feature two of Tuscaloosa's up and coming fighters, Deon Nicholson and Thomas Knox, as they look to stay undefeated in the ring.

The night will also celebrate the first five members of the hall of fame, which will include former heavyweight champion Joe Louis and current champion Deontay Wilder. Louis, who spent his first 12 years in Alabama, is considered one of the greatest boxers of all-time after holding his title for more than a decade. Wilder, who is still in the middle of his successful career, will go into the hall of fame for his amateur career. Before turning pro, the Tuscaloosa native won a Golden Gloves title and a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

The other three inductees include Petey Sarron in the Old Timer category, Eddie Surrett as a Manager/Trainer/Promoter, and Billy Martin as Support Personnel.

Fans can be a part of this historic night and watch the live boxing by purchasing tickets from Skyy Boxing or by going here.
