Alabama Women’s Basketball Travels to Tulane for WNIT Second Round
After a thrilling first round victory, the Alabama Crimson Tide advances to face the Tulane Green Wave in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Monday night.
In the first round, Alabama (18-13, 6-10 SEC) defeated Troy 82-79 in Trojan Arena. The Crimson Tide overcame an early deficit and four players scored in double figures to preserve the narrow victory.
Tulane (21-9, 11-5 AAC) won its first round matchup against Jacksonville State 80-36 on Thursday. In the game, the Green Wave shot 51.7 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc, putting up a season-best twelve three-pointers. Defensively, Tulane held Jacksonville State to just 22.4 percent shooting from the field.
Overall, four Tulane players average double figures this season and the Green Wave currently rank ninth in the nation in rebounds.
This postseason matchup won’t be the first time these two teams square off this season. Alabama and Tulane met on Nov. 14 in Coleman Coliseum where the Green Wave came away with a tough 69-66 victory.
In the earlier matchup, the Tide started off strong, but the Green Wave fought their way back outscoring the Tide, 55-40, in the final three quarters to get the victory. Megan Abrams and Brittany Davis led the Tide in scoring with 21 and 17, respectively, while the Green Wave saw four players reach double figures.
Alabama looks to avenge the early season loss in order to move on to the WNIT Sweet 16.
