Alabama QB Jalen Hurts Identifies Area He Wants to Improve
It's difficult to critique a true freshman quarterback that's led his team to a 13-0 record, and SEC Championship, and a one-seed in the College Football Playoff, but Alabama's Jalen Hurts has no problem finding weaknesses in his game.
Speaking during the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl media days on Thursday, Hurts was asked about the area that he wants to improve upon
"Right now I would say ball security," Hurst said. "I'm not too big on turning the ball over. I don't like turning the ball over. I don't think anybody does, but I hate it. I mean, I may not show it, but.."
Ball security might be the biggest knock on Hurts in his short career at Alabama and it's troubled him since his first snap in crimson and white. He fumbled on his first career play in the season opener against Southern Cal and he's turned it over 13 more times since. In total, Hurts has been responsible for 14 of the Crimson Tide's 19 turnovers in 2016.
But despite his age and inexperience, Hurts has always found a way to rise above those mistakes. He shown that time and time again. From that opener against USC where he went on to account for four touchdowns in a 52-6 win to the Ole Miss game where he picked himself up after a sack-fumble-six to rally his team to a big road win.
Hurts will have the opportunity to become the first true freshman quarterback in more than 30 years to lead his team to a national championship, and it starts with a matchup with the Washington Huskies on Saturday afternoon.
